German debut director Jakob Zapf presents his first feature film A HANDFUL OF WATER about an unusual friendship between a young girl from Yemen and an old stubborn man. The film will be screened at the Socially Relevant Film Festival in New York on March 19th.

An indie film about friendship and common history, a thriller about deportation, an Arthouse movie about loneliness and purpose in life: After being nominated @ Cinequest and Catalina, and awarded @ Tryon Film Festival A HANDFUL OF WATER will have its New York premiere @ Socially Relevant Film Festival on March 19th.

We cordially invite you to this film’s screening that was described by the press as a “fairy tale you tell yourself for comfort, when reality is threatening to be too terrifying.” Screening and Q&A with the director Jakob Zapf take place in the Cinéma Village (22 East 12th Street, New York 10003) from 9-11 PM.

The film tells the story of young refugee girl Thurba who runs away from home to prevent the deportation of her family. When she breaks and enters his home, she meets Konrad, a stubborn old man who doesn’t like foreigners at all. The two get to know each other and a tender friendship arises.

The Socially Relevant Film Festival only screens films about important social topics in our society to raise awareness. We are honored that our film is part of this year’s official selection and can’t wait for the New York audience’s reaction!

The film also streams online, starting from March 20th. (Tickets are available on FilmFreeway)
