Regula Rüegg was born in Switzerland and taught German there for many years. Since coming to New York in 2004, she has been an avid photographer. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland, Germany, and the United States. In 2007, she started teaching at Deutsches Haus at NYU, and in 2009, she started curating the annual summer show at Deutsches Haus at NYU. Photography is a way of noticing our surroundings. Regula Rüegg is especially interested in the unspectacular events and small shifts in everyday life, the often overlooked background of the grander things. By taking photos, but also by writing, she celebrates the uniqueness of those subtle and only seemingly unpresuming themes. During the pandemic, being tied to the apartment, her attention was drawn ever more to the beauty of inconspicuous objects like a radiator or wilting flowers. This exhibition features Regula Rüegg photographs from the past 20 years.
