Neue Galerie New York is delighted to present a new literary program: Literatur Café features conversations on literature, translation, the art of writing, and literary reception. You can bring your own book or buy a copy of the featured book and have it signed.
What moves people to write poetry, and how do poets transform the fleeting dimension of lived experience into the precarious permanence of poetry? How do poets capture feelings of ecstatic joy and irrecoverable loss without turning such experiences into lifeless, frozen words?
Join us for a special evening with the newly appointed Executive Director and President of the Academy of American Poets Ricardo Alberto Maldonado and renowned NYU University Professor and Rilke expert, Ulrich Baer for a discussion about Rilke, poetry, and creativity. We will examine some of Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke's poems and letters to explore poetry's capacity to find more life within life and deepen our capacity to awaken to existence.
