New Chamber Ballet presents the world premiere of Well, a new ballet by Miro Magloire to music by Anthony Cheung.

German-born Choreographer Miro Magloire continues his New Chamber Ballet's 2023-24 season with the world premiere of Well, inspired by the compositions of contemporary composer Anthony Cheung, November 3 & 4, 7:30 PM, at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn.

Ever a champion of new music, Magloire has found in Cheung's music “a perpetually renewing rhythmic imagination, with scintillating harmonies that evoke the reflection of light in water ”. The new work interweaves a passionate solo with an intricate group piece - with the dancers permanently switching roles in Magloire's delicate choreography.

The title Well also refers to the people who come to nourish themselves: dance and music springing forth to feed our sense of humanity.

Well will be performed in New Chamber Ballet's signature, in-the-round setup, with the audience seated up-close and able to see the kaleidoscopic choreography from various angles. As always at New Chamber Ballet, the music will be performed live.

Performers include the dancers Anabel Alpert, Megan Foley, Nicole McGinnis, Amber Neff, and Rachele Perla; as well as Doori Na (violin) and Nacho Ojeda (piano).

“It's heartening to see work so focused on the meeting of dance and music.” -Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times
