A concert by Christian Benning Percussion Group performing BEAThoven, reimagining the timeless works of classical composers such as Beethoven, by infusing them with rhythmic contemporary percussion.
Described as the artistic principle of Tradition -Transformation- Future, Christian Benning, together with his colleagues Patrick Stapleton, Marcel Morikawa, Felix Kolb, and Godwin Schmid, reimagines the timeless works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Bach, and Ravel, infusing them with the rhythmic energy of contemporary percussion.
In the “BEAThoven” program, the ensemble breathes new life into timeless compositions, exploring the hypothetical question: How would the great composers of the past have crafted their masterpieces with today's percussion instruments? In addition to the illumination of well-known melodies in completely new sound colors of the various percussion instruments, another unique feature of these transcriptions is the careful and tasteful processing of grooves and rhythms from various musical styles that have emerged since then, particularly on the American continent. With BEAThoven, Benning and his colleagues not only make the timelessness of the musical legacy of the great masters of European music history audible, but also connect with them the musical achievements of America through a unique artistic transatlantic bridge - a real departure from tradition into the future!
Date and Time: Wednesday, June 5 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Location: German House, 871 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017
