The German Translation Section at the United Nations cordially invites you to an evening reception on the occasion of “German Language Day at the United Nations.” To mark the day the German Translation Section officially took up operations on 1 July 1975, the four diplomatic missions of the funding States (Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland) host an annual celebration on or around 1 July. This year, the event is organized by the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations as part of its celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Germany joining the United Nations. In addition, the Goethe-Institut New York is offering free online German trial classes on 29 June (see below for further information). Kindly RSVP here through 27 June to attend the event

Program:
- Welcome and introduction by Michael Geisler, Political Coordinator at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations
- Musical performance directed by Dirk Wels (flute), Claire Smith Bermingham (violin), Yumi Suehiro (piano)
- Presentation of the German-language version of the brochure “Multilingualism at the United Nations” Introduction by Nanette Braun, Deputy Director of the UN Department of Global Communications
- Screening of short film: “Muss ja nicht sein, dass es heute ist” (It doesn’t have to be today) (approx. 8min., Germany 2022, German with English subtitles) Directed by Sophia Groening, courtesy of Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg e.V. German trial classes: The Goethe-Institut New York is offering free German trial classes for different levels on Thursday, 29 June. The classes will be held on Zoom! - 12 – 1pm EST: complete beginners - 12 – 1pm EST: beginners - 1 – 2pm EST: advanced beginners Prior registration is required via e-mail (through 28 June, 12pm) to deutsch@un.org
