The Austrian Cultural Forum New York is hosting an event focused on Austrian German in literature and translation featuring a reading and a reception. In addition, the Deutsches Haus at NYU is offering free online German courses for a variety of levels.
The German Translation Section at the United Nations is pleased to present a reading by Austrian writer Daniela Emminger and her translator, Alta L. Price. In a premiere and sneak preview, she will present chapters of her new and as yet unpublished book “Blood is Not Thicker than Water” translated into English. Join them for a journey through this crime story that will lead the audience from New York City to a pig farm in Austria. The reading will be followed by a conversation with Alta L. Price, in which author and translator will discuss the joys and challenges of translating Austrian dialect into English, and more.
