Dance the Distance (March 11 & March 22), © Anne Berlit
Awarded art exhibition presents the works of artist Anne Berlit from Germany together with the works of artist Michele Foyer from San Francisco.
Atlantic Gallery is pleased to present Dance the Distance, an exhibition featuring the work of Anne Berlit and Michele Foyer. This exhibition is an award for their innovative work in artist Suzan Shutan’s curatorial project This is the Future of Non-Objective Art in 2024. The artists and Shutan will be at the opening reception on Thursday, March 13th from 6- 8pm.
Berlit is a German artist from Essen whose practice spans painting, sculpture, public art and installation. Foyer who is based in San Francisco merges painting, sculpture and collage. Both artists explore layering and a poetic interplay of light, color, and reflection to create depth and distance. The translucent, smooth surfaces of Berlit’s acrylic-on-plexiglass paintings contrast with Foyer’s opaque, painted-paper collages, engaging in a visual
dialogue that unfolds within and between their works. Their art extends beyond traditional boundaries, incorporating the surrounding space and inviting viewers to actively engage in its perception.
Both artists have exhibited extensively, received prestigious residencies and awards, and had their work featured in significant publications and collections.
Berlit studied Free Graphics and Sculpture at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (1992 -1999), becoming a master student of David Rabinowitch (1998), and earning the Akademiebrief (1999). Her work is included in notable collections such as the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, the City of Essen, and the Sparkasse Gütersloh. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and has received numerous awards.
Foyer, a San Francisco-based artist, holds an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, a BFA from California College of the Arts, and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, White Columns Artist Registry, and in book publications. She has been awarded numerous residencies, including at Ucross Foundation, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Lucid Arts Foundation.
