Heldentenor Shawn Roth sings excerpts from Liszt, Beethoven, and Wagner, including the Wesendonck Lieder, in an intimate piano recital.

Tenor Shawn Roth, a promising and exciting young artist, takes center stage in a captivating and intimate recital, showcasing his impressive vocal talent. Accompanied by pianist Artyom Pak, Roth presents Beethoven’s “An die ferne Geliebte,” a poignant song cycle brimming with romantic longing and emotional depth, as well as excerpts from Die Walküre and the complete Wesendonck Lieder, a cycle of lush and evocative songs by Wagner, infused with the composer’s unique harmonies and introspective lyricism. Roth was the winner of the 2021 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, and has also won awards in The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, the Meistersinger Competition, the Houston Saengerbund, the Eleanor McCollum Competition, and Neue Stimmen, as well as the 2024 Lauch Memorial Award from the Wagner Society of New York. In fall 2024, Roth joined the roster of the Butler Studio at Houston Grand Opera where he will sing Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser. This event is an opportunity to experience some of the most profound works in the art song and opera repertoire, delivered by a rising star of the vocal world.
