The KINO! Film Salon is a free monthly online film discussion group about German film, produced by
Telescope Film and the German Film Office. Each month we choose a German film or series currently available to stream, watch it independently, and come together for a hosted conversation with other fans of German film.
Our film for September is Phoenix, the masterwork from Christian Petzold, and the session will include an introduction to the film by the filmmaker himself. Petzold will premiere a new film at the Toronto International Film Festival, which opens this month.
Phoenix: Nellie is a concentration-camp survivor who is unrecognizable after facial reconstruction surgery. She returns to Berlin in order to find her estranged husband, Johnny. Her goal becomes clear: she must figure out whether he betrayed her to the Nazis or not.
