Save the date for an online discussion on heat, public health, and climate adaptation with experts from the University of Cologne and Yale School of Public Health

“The Heat Is On: Health, Society, and Climate Adaptation” on October 14, 2026 brings together perspectives from Germany and the United States to explore how rising temperatures are reshaping public health, healthcare, and societal resilience.

The discussion features Dr. Beate Müller, Professor for General Practice and Director of the Institute of General Practice at the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Cologne, University of Cologne, and Dr. Kai Chen, Associate Professor at the Yale School of Public Health and Faculty Director of the Yale Center on Climate Change and Health.

Together, they will address the growing health risks posed by heat. How dangerous is heat really, and how can healthcare systems, patients, and communities adapt to rising temperatures in a warming world?

The Transatlantic Tandem Talks were established on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the North America office of the University of Cologne in New York in the year 2021 in cooperation with its partners the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in New York, the German Embassy in Washington D.C., Deutsches Haus at NYU, DAAD New York, the German Research Foundation (DFG) North America, the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York, 1014 Space for Ideas, the Goethe Institute New York, AmerikaHaus NRW, the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the American Council on Germany (ACG).
