Between Life and Death tells stories of Holocaust survivors and those who risked their lives to rescue Jews across Europe, exploring courage, human choices and the different realities of rescue during the Second World War.

The exhibition Between Life and Death. Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust pays tribute to people who risked their own lives to help persecuted Jews during the Second World War. By bringing together the stories of rescuers and survivors, the exhibition explores courage, individual choices and the complexity of human relationships under the extreme conditions of war and occupation.

Each story is presented within a broader historical context, showing how local circumstances shaped both the possibilities for rescue and the chances of survival. The exhibition highlights that helping Jews carried different risks and challenges across occupied Europe and that the realities faced by rescuers in places such as Warsaw, Paris or Copenhagen could differ significantly.

The exhibition presents stories from fifteen European countries: Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. It also highlights the efforts of diplomats from several countries who used their positions and resources to help save Jews.

Through personal stories and historical context, Between Life and Death encourages visitors to reflect on courage, responsibility, solidarity and the choices individuals make in times of persecution.
