Martina Barta – What the world needs now is love: A Burt Bacharach Tribute

Internationally acclaimed Czech-German jazz vocalist Martina Barta makes her 54 Below debut with “What the World Needs Now Is Love”, a sophisticated and deeply personal tribute to the legendary American songwriter Burt Bacharach.

Bacharach´s melodies, sophisticated harmonies, and timeless songs of love and longing have transcended generations and genres. In this evening Martina Barta brings a fresh jazz sensibility to his iconic songbook, remaining classics including “Alfie”, “The Look of Love”, “Close To You”, “A House Is Not a Home”, “Walk On By” through original arrangements.

Martina Barta is joined by a world-class NYC jazz trio featuring Matt Baker on piano, John Webber on bass, and Adam Nussbaum on drums. Together they create an elegant and dynamic sound that moves effortlessly between sophisticated jazz interplay, storytelling, and the timeless lyricism of Bacharach´s melodies.

MARTINA BARTA – a graduate of the Berlin University of Arts / Jazz Institut Berlin and the Manhattan School of Music, has studied with renowned jazz artists including Theo Bleckmann, Buster Williams, Judy Niemack, Kurt Rosenwinkel and David Friedman. Her international career has taken her to prestigious stages including Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Berlin Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin, as well as major festivals throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. In 2017, she represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest, reaching millions of viewers worldwide.

“What the World Needs Now Is Love” is more than a tribute… It is a personal musical conversation with one of the great composers of the 20^th century, celebrating love, longing, vulnerability, and the enduring power of a beautiful song.
