German-Ecuadorian pianist and conductor Boris Cepeda returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall with Transcendante, an all-Liszt recital tracing a dramatic journey from virtuosity to transfiguration.
German-Ecuadorian pianist and conductor Boris Cepeda returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall with Transcendante, an evening devoted entirely to Franz Liszt. The program unfolds as a dramatic journey from virtuosity to transfiguration. Familiar works such as La Campanella, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, Mazeppa, and Rhapsodie espagnole stand alongside Liszt’s transformations of Schubert and Wagner, culminating in Isoldens Liebestod.
Born in Ecuador and raised in Germany, Cepeda studied piano at the University of the Arts Bremen and spent more than two decades in German musical life. His positions included Deputy Head of Music at Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, Head of Music and Deputy Choir Director at Theater Münster, and lecturer at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. His experience as an opera conductor gives particular weight to Liszt’s theatrical transcriptions and to the program’s larger dramatic arc.
A Steinway Artist, Cepeda first appeared at Carnegie Hall in 2022. Transcendante marks his return to the intimate Weill Recital Hall. The concert is presented by European Piano Academy of Atlanta. A 20% ticket discount is available with code WAG57513 through October 1, 2026.
